  • Mountain Kim Martial Arts Schools are awesome.
Recently, my eleven year old son has been tormented by school bullies.
He stood up to them each time with the strength and confidence born from the knowledge and skills acquired from Master Kang’s Do Jang (Charlottesville location).
My son dodged the only punch thrown and told the bully he is prepared to win the fight if the bully did not back away.  Through showing no fear, the fight ended without a fight.
Confidence in self defense is a strong and crucial tool in junior high.  Keep up the excellent work sir.  My family has been a part of Master Kang’s school for over five years and loves you all.
Joshua earned his black belt in Viennna two years ago. He practices the self restraint taught through martial arts at Mt.Kim.
We have taken him out of public school to begin homeschooling him.  We plan to use Mt. Kim to fulfill his physical education requirements.
Thank you and may God continue to bless your schools with growth and prosperity.

  • I begin practicing Tae Kwon Do when I was 12 years old through different studio (Dojang). I always enjoyed the feeling of mind and body being more disciplined and more in control. Specifically, at that younger age, I enjoyed feeling my body be at its peak shape and myself at peak energy.
Since joining Mountain Kim Tae Kwon Do at age 20, I see the different between myself then and myself now is immense. Physically,I was completely out of shape and mentally I no longer has the confidence that I once had when I fisrt practice Tae Kwon Do. I have again regained that confidence in my own body and my own abilities to perform feats of streath and energy that for time I could no longer do. While my improvements physically have been highly significant, my improvement mentally (in being able to regain that confidence in myself once held as a child), is the biggest improvement of all.

  • When I started in Tae Kwon Do since 2008, I had just turned 52 and I was not exercising at all. I started working out with the University of Virginia Tae Kwon Do club: it was me and a room full of college-age students. Without going into a lot of detail, I got in shape very quickly. Then I suffer a knee injury and I had to stop just a few months. While my knee was healing, I discovered Mt. Kim Martial Arts and Master Kang. As soon As I was able to, I started training with Master Kang. Since that time my physical fitness has improved tremendously. I also finding that my mental focus and concentration are improving. Suffice it to say that I am doing much better overall than I was five years ago.

  • I have felt a greater sense of focus and commitment that I had never before experienced. It is almost as if I found a path that is right for me to travel. I have put my faith, effort, and patience into Gumdo. I would not be who I am without it, and I dare say that it had made me who I am. When I go to Gumdo lessons, it is not because I have to, or because it is Saturday, and I go on Saturday. I go because MT. Kim is my home. Everyone there is a part of my family. Every time someone new come in I introduce myself and welcome them in. I feel the need to share this part of my life with everyone I can.
Aiden, He started 5 years ago. He is now 18 years old.

  • I have been training in Tae Kwon Do techniques for the past 3 years, after my son had enroll at MT. Kim for a year. I was watching the classes and later I enrolled the program. Taking classes with my son has helped us both in many ways. He is able to see that I also am challenged by the expectations of Master Kang. I have to study, practice, and work to learn the skills. It is good for us to practice together and for him to see that the effort pays off. Many times, he can remember the movements better than I can, and that also motivate me to work harder. Tae Kwon Do also has help us both develop physically. My son has muscular dystrophy and has extremely tight muscles. The stretching and kicking have improved his flexibility tremendously. I have also improve my agility, balance, and core stability. Finally leadership, focus, respect, and confidence have improved in both of us. My son is developing into the young man that I am proud of, and much of that development is due to our martial arts. I believe the research suggests that martial arts techniques help prevent or slow Alzheimer’s Disease, as I have seen the benefits of this neuromuscular training. Hopefully, I will build on these new skills to continue to improve both mentally and physically.

  • My son, Justin , has been attending classes at Mountain Kim Martial Arts for 4 years. The values he has learned have been far-reaching outside the Do-Jang. He has learned self-control, self-esteem, respect, and discipline. Master Kang teaches the children in a fun, creative way that enhances learning the principles of Tae-Kwon-Do. The children look up to Master Kang and have a lot of respect for him. He is truly amazing in the way he instructs the students and helps them excel in martial arts. In addition, his staffs are very knowledgeable and conduct classes that enable the students to grow in their martial arts study. Justin has also attended the summer and holiday camps. These camps were a wonderful addition to his classes. He had a lot of fun and made a lot of great friends. Master Kang and his staffs keep the camps fun with several activities all the while instilling the values of Tae-Kwon-Do. We are so fortunate to be a part of the Mountain Kim Martial Arts Do-Jang in Charlottesville.

  • I have significant changes over years of study in Tae Kwon Do at Mt. Kim Martial Arts. At the begining of my training, I weighed close to 270Lbs, and was in very poor cardiovascular condition, being a type 2 diabetic and hypertensive. As of the writing of this testimonial I am down to 226 lbs, and am in significantly better in shape, although I still have some work to dao from a cadiovascular standpoint. The mental changes I have experienced are better focus and a reduction in frequency and severity of migraine headaches.
